About the inverted tree The Penguin Book of Symbols (pg. 1028) says”… the roots were depicted as playing the part of branches and the branches of roots.  Life came from Heaven and was instilled into Earth … and also bears the meaning of the roots as the principle of manifestation and the branches as the effloration of that manifestation.”  This example holds a tea-light.
